1,000,000 Americans have died in war

2,500,000 have died in Motor Vehicle Crashes.

That should put some perspective on the problem!

I have simplified my notes, but this still covers a lot of technical and specific anatomical and physiological material. I have used colored font to point out the relevant facts. You may want to look at the Pamphlet on Motor Vehicle Crashes (link on left column).

If you have had an injury due to a Motor Vehicle Crash, you probably have insurance coverage and need to get checked as soon as possible.

Motor Vehicle Crashes often result in chronic pain. This will change your life and changes the personality of many people suffering from chronic pain.
1/100 people on planet earth have Chronic Pain due to Motor Vehicle Crashes.

The #1 Treatment of Motor Vehicle Crashes is Tylenol and/or Vicodin. These drugs increase risk of heart attack and stroke. They are the top cause of Liver and Kidney failure, leading to liver transplants. Did you ever think of Motor Vehicle Crashes as a top cause of Liver Transplants?

Radiculopathy is damage to the disc between the vertebrae. It is not always properly diagnosed. A common symptom of milder radiculopathy is Pain between the Shoulder blades.
How many people do you know, that were in a car crash, were told it will heal OK, and now have persistent pain in the mid/upper back?
They probably have spinal disc damage that will degenerate if not corrected. One of the first stressors of disc deterioration is increased stress on small joints to the side of the vertebral body called Uncinate joints. This results in arthritic spurs to these joints. I have seen this on X-Rays of my patients with a history of car crash injury.

The Spinal Accessory Nerve emerges at all cervical spine levels. Injury to the Spinal Accessory Nerve result in Trapezius Muscle spasm. The Cervical nerve roots go to the Trigeminal Motor Nucleus (5 th cranial, sensory sensation in the face). Therefore the source of Head Ache can be from a cervical injury.
The Temporalis, pterygoid, and masseter muscles all cross the Temporo Mandibular Joint and must be checked and treated to prevent TMJ Headaches and pain in
Motor Vehicle Crash victims.

How many people do you know, with a history of car crash, now have chronically tight “shoulder” muscles, headaches, TMJ headaches, jaw pain, or pain with chewing?

Many patients report “dizziness” diagnosed as Vertigo. This can be caused by cervical spine dysfunction-European Spine Journal #7,1998, pp55-58. Therefore we need to check the upper cervical spine after a motor vehicle crash.

How many people do you know, with a history of care crash, who now have “Dizzy” episodes?

Trauma results in “Sympathetic dominance”. It is now out of balance with the “Para-sympathetic” system. Over activity of the Sympathetic Nervous System is immunosuppressive, leading to increased susceptibility to colds and flu’s.

How many people do you know, with a history of car crash, who now get colds and flu and every other “crud” going through town?

Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy inhibits the Sympathetic Nervous System. A course of appropriate Chiropractic care can break the cycle of spasm, immune and psychological depression and ill health resulting from a motor vehicle crash.

     Locations of Damage

Kirkaldy-Willis principle-you can’t break a lifesaver in one place. Therefore, if you suspect one area of damage or fracture, you must diagnose the associated stress site.
Pars defect fill with pathological fibrosis with nociceptive nerves and deficiency of mechanoreceptors.
Disc is most likely tissue in the body to hyper-innervate. Scar tissue has more nociceptors with no mechanoreceptors (more synapses).
That means that areas of bone or disc injury that heal, but not properly, can result in an increase of pain sensation and a decrease of efficient, balanced function.

Do you know of anyone who has lost balance or athletic ability, with an increase of pain, after a motor vehicle crash?

Cervical injury, most common in car crashes, most commonly results in Facet joint damage. It also commonly damages the disc. Low Back Pain, somewhat less common in car crashes, usually damages the disc. Facet joint damage in the lumbar is less common. Ref. Steven Colsech, Spinal Surgery,
Damage to the Disc results in a high rate of chronic pain due to unique neurological, retrograde sympathetic innervation (visceral).
This means that disc injury can also cause organ symptoms.

Do you know of anyone who has problems with digestion, gut or visceral function following a motor vehicle crash?

Only Volvo has fixed head restraint, the only one that is any good. That’s what Dr. Dan Murphy says. I know my Saturn head restraint isn’t worth much.

Vehicle strength-law of inertia, stiffer car doesn’t bend in collision, energy goes into the occupants. Inertial injuries are irrelevant to vehicle damage. This is the “Cue ball effect”
The stiffest cars sustain the least injury and transmit the most injury to occupants.

Do you know of anyone who was told that they couldn’t possibly be injured, because the vehicle had very little damage?

Women sustain higher rate of injury than Men, 70%. Men have thicker ligaments (more “cable” fibers)
It’s true, more women than men are injured in car crashes, sorry.

          Grab bag of Miscellaneous

Keloid formers, have high resistance to infection (wall off response), but over-respond to physical trauma. Goofy exam and MRI results-Contralateral imaging finding-sensory signs only, potential for long tract. Ipsilateral imaging findings may result in mixed motor/sensory signs. Because of Somato Visceral reflex, Whiplash can reduce systemic health. Video study reveals S curve rather than “hyper-extension” injury. A maximum extension X-Ray, with a finding of lucent disc shows ripping loose of cartilaginous cap. With Meniscal block torticollis, treat by stretching capsule, adjust into direction of antalgia.

The message, do a good exam. People are different and the Doctor needs to know what happened to this particular patient!

SSRI drugs, often given for depression increases serotonin, but decreases dopamine. This can result in pathological mood changes, such as indifference to sex (life, suicide), as well as a
potential for neurological deficits (nerve damage)

So, a person has problems, the M.D. doesn’t think they have any relationship to the history of Motor Vehicle Crash, gives them SSRI (Prozac) and now you have someone who is borderline crazy. Did you think that could result from a car crash?
This can be treated naturally and when be found in the Nutrition section (when I complete it).

The GOOD NEWS! All these problems can be helped with Chiropractic care

How much care is needed? well, it’s actually about what a lot of people have been told.

Dr. Dan Murphy www.danmurphydc.com recommends;

You just got in a Car Wreck. You should be in my office every day for about two weeks, and three times a week for about 8 weeks.
It will vary somewhat depending on how severe the injuries and how much we can do for you.

You have a history of Car Crash(es). We start you on a program that looks kind of like the one above, but you have Chronic problems that will require ongoing care. That’s not so bad if it allows you an active, relatively pain and drug free life!

So yeah, you come in a lot and maybe, the rest of your life. Is it worth it? Consultations are free, so it doesn’t cost anything to come in and start to find out. Your Auto Insurance will pay 100% of covered.

One more Topic-Selling Out

Why do you hear a lot of the stuff that you know is misinformation and outright lies?
Depending on what you do, you know that people “bend the rules” all the time when it makes it easier or more profitable for them.
Experts will SELL OUT for a price
I know Chiropractors who live in Beachfront homes, making perhaps $700,000 a year from insurance companies, to act as experts that Chiropractic care isn’t needed for injured people. I
just thought you would want to know.
Dr. Dan Murphy  said he would sell out for $10 million. He has more ethics than me. I have turned down $2,000 a day, but think I might fold for $5 million. Any big companies listening? LOL :-~
