Going back to the Source-Education is a Journey!
Dr. Gonstead brought hands on adjusting to a whole new level of expertise. He selected Drs. Alex (left) and Doug Cox to carry on his clinic and teaching. There are many techniques in our profession. They all have value and a place in our clinical tools, but traditional "hands on" adjusting is the epitome of Chiropractic care in the minds of many and possibly the most difficult to learn. Gonstead technique (in my mind) is the most sophisticated.
Dr. Dan Murphy
is one of the foremost authorities on Whiplash Injury and Treatment.
His Literature Review shows the history of research demonstrating the
* tissues damaged in Motor Vehicle Crashes (primarily Facet and Disc joints)
* how vehicle design influences the Type and Extent of Injury, and * What Care Plans are necessary to get the best possible healing.
As an unexpected note:
In his 2008 Seminar he is noting how severely
* Toxic Nutrition is compromising the ability of Patients to heal!

Low speed auto crash injuries, current research, Arthur Croft DC 2007
There is a little bit of competitiveness between Dr. Croft and Murphy on who is THE foremost authority on whiplash. The profession and our patients are the beneficiaries
Dr. Croft is the Founder and Director of the Spine Research Institute of San Diego and the Center for Research into Automotive Safety and Health. He has been actively engaged in whiplash research for more than 20 years and has co-authored a best-selling textbook on whiplash (Whiplash Injuries: the Cervical Acceleration/Deceleration Syndrome)
Dr. Croft has been actively engaged in human subject crash testing for more than half a decade. I have some of the videos! Impressive stuff. http://www.srisd.com/index2.htm Current state of research, Malik Slosberg DC, MS 2006
the nerds' nerd! This guy reads it all, distills it down and brings it home for us to share. Dr. Slosberg is truly the storehouse for all that has happened in research, period. http://www.slosberg.com/
Pediatric Chiropratic, Joel Alcantara DC 2006 -
presented by Life West Chiropractic College. How Kids grow is how they are shaped as adults. Give your children a headstart. Make sure they grow up straight and tall without chronic NMS problems (and more) http://www.icpa4kids.com/seminars/Schedule_Alcantara.php
DMXSF (X-Ray video diagnostics), Lisa Covey DC 2006 -
hmm...really can't figure out why things aren't right? You may need an X-Ray movie. There is no better way of seeing how things are really working inside! http://www.fitwell.com/about.html
Dr. Terry Yochum
The foremost authority on X-Ray in the Chiropractic profession
author of Essentials of Skeletal Radiology, perhaps the single most referenced book on Radiology in Healthcare!
Dr. Yochum spent some time in Honolulu lecturing a group of Chiropractors on the intricacies of Diagnosis and Management of Spondylolisthesis. That means,
* how do you identify and take care of a vertabrae that appears to be unstable? Is it really slipping?
* Can this person remain fully active in Sports, even if that may be what caused the problem to begin with?
The Athlete needs to know!
Cervical Rehab-Biomechanics: by Donald D Harrison, PhD, DC, MSE and Deed Harrison, DC
Dr. Don is an irascable old crust (kind of like Dr. Pettibon below) and one of the most brilliant minds in our profession. He formulated the simple principle that explains how a technique accomplishes spinal correction (mirror image set-up plus application of force). His son, Dr. Deed Harrison is doing a fine job of refining the Chiropractic Bio Physics technique as a tool that any Doctor of Chiropractic can use to reliably accomplish as much corrective healing change as we can. www.idealspine.com
Dr. Burl Pettibon
here is one of the true icons of the profession
When I first heard of Dr. Pettibon giving a seminar, I assumed that it would be his son. This is the man himself!
Dr. Pettibon is possibly the pioneer of the first "global" spinal correction technique. His equipment and instruction remain unique and cutting edge.
Much of modern "Core" training has yet to accomplish the sophisticated propriceptive input that Pettibon adjusting and therapy tools have been accomplishing for decades!
Palmer technique - Dr. J. Richard Burns
Dr. Burns took a bit of time out of his busy schedule as a Palmer Chiropractic College Technique instructor to spend a very busy weekend with us, in Honolulu, making sure that we were "up to snuff" on Palmer specific technique.
This technique has a great deal in common with "Diversified" and "Gonstead"
Gonstead Technique Darald E. Bolin - Dr. Bolin is retired. He invented the Bolin X-Ray shields (still one of the best tools we have for reducing unnecessary X-Ray exposure, and taught the Gonstead course for many years. As one of my earliest "technique" instructors, he was instrumental in refining my basic Diversified adjusting skills to achieve greater precision.
Motion Palpation Institute - Keith Innes, expanding on the Diversified skills that are basic to graduation from Western States Chiropractic College
Sacro Occipital Technique - Unique, low impact adjusting skills that have some features in common with the Harrison Chiropractic BioPhysics "Mirror Image" adjustive set up
